Role Summary:
The Production Planning Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating manufacturing operations for gear components such as spur, helical, bevel, and worm gears, along with shafts and gearbox assemblies. The role requires strong knowledge of machining processes, production flow, and resource optimization to ensure timely delivery and high efficiency.Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Planning & Scheduling- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production plans based on orders
- Create routing sheets, process plans, and job cards
- Ensure proper machine loading across CNC, VMC, Hobbing, Shaping, Grinding, etc.
- Monitor WIP (Work in Progress) for smooth production flow
- Coordinate gear cutting, hobbing, shaping, grinding, and inspection activities
- Ensure availability of tools, fixtures, and gauges before job execution
- Track heat treatment processes and post-HT operations
- Plan raw material requirements as per production schedule
- Coordinate with stores for availability of materials like forgings and castings
- Maintain optimum inventory levels
- Ensure process adherence and dimensional accuracy
- Maintain MIS reports, production data, and daily tracking sheets
- Support QA/QC team with inspection and corrective actions
- Work closely with design, procurement, and shop-floor teams
- Communicate priorities, delays, and schedule updates
- Ensure timely order completion and dispatch
- Identify production bottlenecks and suggest improvements
- Support lean manufacturing and 5S activities
- Improve cycle time and machine utilization
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of CNC, VMC, and gear manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with ERP / SAP / MS Excel
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and coordination abilities
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in automotive, gearbox, or precision manufacturing industry
- Basic knowledge of CNC programming and cycle time estimation
- Understanding of heat treatment processes
